Online Marketing Specialist

Oregon State University‘s University Housing & Dining Services (UHDS) is seeking an Public Info Representative 1 (Online Marketing Specialist). The person in this position will work under the leadership and direction from the Marketing, Assessment, Communications, and Diversity (MACD) unit and is responsible for the department’s website coordination, social media management, and other marketing project management.
The Marketing, Assessment, Communications, and Diversity (MACD) unit supports University Housing & Dining Services (UHDS) at Oregon State University (OSU) by strengthening awareness of and support for the department's mission and goals. The growing impact of online communication as a primary source for many students, families, and other constituencies has resulted in the need to invest in a more intentional role of leadership and coordination for the online marketing effort of UHDS.
The primary role of the Public Info Representative 1 (Online Marketing Specialist) is to continually enhance, expand and innovate the online presence of UHDS by implementing the department's overall online communications strategies, including coordination of web design, web content, social media engagement, electronic newsletters and other relevant online marketing/promotion strategies. In addition, the role of the Public Info Representative 1 (Online Marketing Specialist) is to provide project management and marketing planning for internal clients, ensuring that their objectives and goals are met and that the communications enhance and
build the brand image of UHDS and goals of the MACD unit overall.
As with all UHDS positions, the Public Info Representative 1 (Online Marketing Specialist) will work to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with campus partners and to create formal and informal opportunities for outreach and relationship building for students within the department in support of creating inclusive environments as stated in the UHDS mission.
Candidates must have (minimum qualifications):
• Three years of experience gathering information, writing/producing materials and presenting information to the public. One year of this experience must have included responsibility for social media.
• Bachelor’s degree in New Media Communications, Business, Marketing, Journalism, Communications or closely related field may substitute for up to two years of general experience.
Website management experience–
• Minimum of two years of technical or professional-level experience managing organizational web presence and/or engaging the public concerning specific programs or processes through web
• Understanding of information architecture and website design best practices
• Experience in the measurement and analysis of Web traffic and social media metrics
• Demonstrable fluency in HTML
• Experience using a Web content management system
Social media management experience –
• Minimum of two years of technical experience managing organizational social media presence
• Expertise with social media tools including social networking sites, video sharing sites, blogs and wikis
Project management experience -
• Minimum of two years of technical or professional-level experience in managing multiple complex projects through successful completion
Other skills or experience –
• A positive, team-oriented attitude
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Strong commitment to integrity and ethical standards
• Experience communicating in diverse communities/diverse backgrounds
• Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
• A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in New Media Communications, Business, Marketing, Journalism, Communications or other related disciplines or previous experience in an ad agency environment, nonprofit and/or higher education marketing or communications department
• Experience with on-campus residential living
• Bi-lingual (Spanish) language proficiency to communicate when interacting with prospective students’ families
Website management –
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for search engine optimization (SEO)
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for compliance (i.e., XHTML Compliance) and accessibility (i.e., 508
• Compliance)
• Demonstrated fluency in Flash, PHP, Javascript, CSS and other Web technologies
• Experience editing Web content, including writing for the Web, video and audio editing and digital imagery
• Enthusiasm and experience working with open source technologies
• Demonstrable experience with email media campaigns
Social media management experience –
• Experience integrating marketing/communications plans or brand identity elements with social media tools
• Demonstrated experience tracking social media trends and providing leadership in producing innovative solutions
Project management experience –
• Familiarity with design tools including Photoshop, Illustrator, inDesign, and video editing software
This is a year-round (12 month) 1.0 FTE position. Salary: $ 2,706 - $3,922 per month.
