full time Web Applications Developer

Individual needed to for a newly created position to design, develop, implement, and maintain innovative web-based application systems using Web 2.0 technologies that enhance the overall user experience and service provided by our websites. The individual selected will provide the technical expertise to build, troubleshoot, review, analyze, and modify web application systems in an evolving web environment; work with client areas to identify needs and develop creative solutions focused on interactivity and ease of use; stay abreast of emerging web technologies and recommend development techniques that will help to streamline the university’s website maintenance and enhance visitors’ experience; make project recommendations; code, test, debug, and maintain documentation for applications; and provide timelines and estimates for project completion. The web applications developer is an integral member of the web services team, which reports to the associate vice president for communications.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and at least two years of employment-based work experience with web application development is required.
Additional Required Skills
• Proficiency in several of the following languages; HTML, CSS, XML, classic ASP, JavaScript, VBScript, and jQuery
• Proficiency in MySQL and relational databases
• Proficiency with cross-browser/cross-platform development
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of faculty and staff
• Ability to explain and provide instruction to others including individuals with varied technical backgrounds
• Ability to work productively in a team

Desired Skills
• IIS administration experience
• Working knowledge of HTML5 and/or ActionScript
• Experience devising solutions for adapting content for mobile devices
• Experience with a content management system (CMS)
• Knowledge of AJAX development
• Experience in .Net
• Knowledge of accessibility standards and W3C code validation
• Proficiency in other languages such as PHP and Java
