Web designer, full-time
The Department of Creative Services at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond Virginia is seeking creative, motivated candidates with demonstrated ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, high-traffic team environment. This position will design and update university and medical center websites and electronic media graphics maintaining a consistent university identity on all sites respective of audience, purpose, quality and production schedule; participating in project team meetings to develop concepts and discuss projects to meet objectives.
Duties include:
Designing a variety of complex informational and promotional electronic media; ensuring final product conforms to approved concepts and capabilities of Internet/mobile communications.
Creating and/or manipulating photos/graphics/illustrations as appropriate; using appropriate optimization techniques to ensure quality and download speed.
Interviewing clients to determine goals as needed and discusses with project team.
Assisting in the development of site architecture and navigational structure for complex, multilevel websites.
Working with developers, editors, photographers and production team to acquire information necessary to generate designs.
Incorporating typography as an expressive and functional communication vehicle; using CSS styles and graphic manipulation.
Knowledge/skills
Demonstrated understanding of the fundamentals of communication, information design, hierarchy and navigation; expertise in the creative use of type, photography and illustration as design elements; expertise in Photoshop and Dreamweaver; experience in HTML (XHTML), Javascript and CSS. Experience in Illustrator and Flash and mobile information delivery a plus. Well-organized, strong team player with exceptional communication skills; ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, commercial or communication arts preferred; minimum five years demonstrated experience and portfolio of Web design projects.
