Web Designer

Princeton University's Office of Information Technology seeks an experienced and highly motivated web designer to join its Web Development Services group. This position is responsible for creating the visual designs and layouts for websites that the Department develops primarily for the Roxen content management system.
WDS provides comprehensive design, development and technical support services across multiple platforms for Princeton University websites. WDS is highly collaborative, with close working relationships between developers, designers, managers and service stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Determining customers' and the group's needs.
Partnering with the group's web developers for website and interface design.
Building effective site information architecture.
Designing highly usable, CMS-friendly websites.
Implementing designs and testing sites across browsers.
Following organizational project management methodologies and technologies.
Providing occasional one-on-one customer support.
Actively exchanging knowledge and sharing expertise with colleagues.
Continually learning new technologies and techniques that support evolving needs.
Maintaining positive working relationships with and providing service to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Contributing to the overall development of the Web Development Services group.
Essential Qualifications:
A minimum of three years web design experience.
A strong online and pre-production portfolio displaying user-centered design.
Demonstrated expertise in using CSS and HTML.
Fluency with state-of-the-art design software including Adobe Photoshop and Ilustrator.
Knowledge and demonstrated experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues.
Demonstrated knowledge of current web-design trends and techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively and creatively visually, verbally, and in writing.
In-depth knowledge of existing and upcoming web standards.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, respond to shifting priorities and work within time constraints to meet project deadlines.
Ability to balance design with customer meetings and support.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse customers who possess varying levels of technical proficiencies.
Ability to work effectively in an open, shared space environment.
The final candidate for the position must successfully complete a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with and enthusiasm for developing new skills and learning about emerging technologies.
Professional experience in Higher Education.
Bachelor's Degree Required
