Web and Graphic Designer
at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in Philadelphia
The web and graphic designer provides support to the sr. director with the creation and maintenance of graphic files and a variety of pages on the USP web site, production of final print-ready files, maintenance of template-based projects, and execution of rough layouts through finished comps as assigned. This position helps to advance USP Marketing’s mission of maintaining brand awareness and integrity. The web and graphic designer is part of a team of marketing communications professionals who work closely with USP faculty, staff, students, alumni and external professionals to execute comprehensive communications materials for USP.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-- Creates and maintains graphic files and a variety of pages for the USP web site.
-- Prepares all electronic files properly for appropriate output.
-- Revises and maintains all template-based projects.
-- Executes rough layouts through finished comps according to design direction of creative director for a variety of promotional and informational pieces such as programs, brochures, booklets, flyers, posters, direct mailers and invitations in one, two and four-color formats.
-- Produces independent design projects as assigned.
-- Ensures that brand continuity is maintained on all USP marketing communications materials.
-- Assists in the production of admission recruitment materials, catalogs, and quarterly news magazine (USP Bulletin).
-- Maintains in-house and web-ready photo library.
-- Manages job files, electronic files and backup of such.
-- Coordinates photography services where appropriate.
-- Secures bids from printers, photographers, mailing houses and other vendors as required.
-- Maintains good relationships and communications within USP community.
-- Participates in departmental, staff, and divisional meetings as required.
-- Assists with University events as assigned.
-- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
BFA Degree in web and graphic design, or related field, experience in web production and content management systems, and experience in print production and graphic design. Minimum of five years of relevant work experience, preferably agency or in-house experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
-- Proficiency in Web page design, layout and file production
-- Proficiency in Web software including Dreamweaver and Flash
-- Proficiency in print production and graphic design
-- Thorough knowledge of pre-press/print production methods and printing processes
-- Knowledge of principles of design and typography
-- Proficiency in Mac OSX platform with thorough knowledge of In Design, Quark Xpress, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, PowerPoint and Word as well as cross-platform with same software
-- Experience in selection of paper, illustration and photography
Ability to handle multiple projects, meet tight deadlines with strong attention to detail
-- Excellent organizational and communication skills
-- Excellent typing and proofreading skills
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work autonomously and collaboratively. Maintains working relationships with internal clients and outside vendors, including designers, photographers, printers and mailing houses. Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
