full time Director of Marketing and Communications

REPORTS TO:
Vice President for University Advancement

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provide University leadership for the development and implementation of integrated marketing, communications and public relations strategies designed to attract students and enhance the University’s reputation in the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management and academic leaders to develop and implement an enrollment strategy designed to increase student enrollment.

2. Develop and implement a strategy for positioning, branding and advancing the reputation of the University to external constituents.

3. Provide leadership and strategies for the Marketing & Communications Department, responsible for the University’s advertising, marketing and brand development, public and media relations, Web site strategy and development, publications and internal communication.

4. Foster a consistent understanding among faculty and staff to ensure external communications meet University branding and messaging standards and goals.

5. Establish and manage quality standards of University communications materials.

6. Conduct market research to target prospective students for various academic programs.

7. Facilitate relationships with faculty to inform marketing strategies.

8. Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management and faculty to identify, position and market partnerships and alliances with employers and other academic institutions.

9. Measure effectiveness of advertising, messaging, and other strategies in achieving the University’s marketing, communication and enrollment goals.

10. Act as clearinghouse for information communicated to external constituents.

11. Develop and implement communication plans to address major initiatives; crisis communication; and communications with internal constituents.

12. Develop and manage an annual budget/plan for the Marketing & Communications Department in support of the University’s strategic plan and goals.

13. Lead a four-member professional team, manage external vendors, and collaborate with external marketing/recruitment agency for online programs.

14. Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures including job assignment and workflow management.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications or related field required. Master’s degree or graduate-level coursework preferred.

2. Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience and excellent understanding of marketing, public relations and communications. Experience with higher education institutions or nonprofit organizations strongly preferred.

3. Experience in project management, budget management and employee supervision.

4. Ability to prioritize initiatives and workload effectively and efficiently.

5. Experience in research, creative development, production and management of a wide variety of marketing collateral and publications. Experience in production and management of Web sites and Internet advertising strongly preferred.

6. Excellent leadership, collaborative communication and interpersonal skills.

7. Demonstrated ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel.

8. Appreciation for a student-centered environment that provides multiple degrees in a variety of learning formats, including on campus and online.
