Job Description

The professional in this position will provide thoughtful and hands-on direction to a creative and energetic public relations effort that will successfully position the College with key internal and external constituencies, both locally and nationally, as the College continues to advance its position as a recognized leader in the delivery of higher education.

The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing best practices for College’s public relations effort and will manage, direct, and oversee all public relations activities. This individual should have strong communication, planning and data analysis skills in order to facilitate strategies that drive the College’s image and reputation. This is a truly unique opportunity for an individual to implement policies and practices that will set the direction for continued growth and success.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director for Development, Alumni and Public Relations, the Senior Director serves on the division’s senior leadership team.

Responsibilities

• Manage a public relations team which includes Creative Services, Publications, Media Relations and Web Design
• Establish a collegial, creative and productive work environment
• Develop and execute an integrated internal and external communications plan for all College announcements, developments, and activities
• Update and maintain the College’s crisis communication plan
• Create comprehensive style (graphic, editorial, web) standards for the College
• Assist with branding of College
• Develop methodology for evaluating return on public relations investments
• Initiate, implement and manage all public relations functions
• Provide leadership and strategic direction to ensure consistency of both content and messaging for all interaction with external communications
• Support and work closely with the Executive Director for Marketing in furthering student recruitment initiatives

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communication or similar degree program. Master’s degree preferred
• 3 to 5 years public relations experience, preferably in higher education, including management of a PR team
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to make clear and effective presentations
• Ability to lead focus groups and other community and/or leadership sessions
• Ability to gather and interpret data related to public relations
• Excellent leadership qualities

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of AP Stylebook
• Knowledge of print and web design concepts and trends
• Knowledge of the printing process
