Assistant Director of Communications

Gettysburg College, founded in 1832, is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with a strong academic tradition that includes Rhodes Scholars, a Nobel laureate and other distinguished scholars among its alumni. The College enrolls 2,600 undergraduate students and is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania. Gettysburg College is currently seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Assistant Director of Communications within the Division of Enrollment and Educational Services.
This position will perform a variety of research, writing, photographic, editing, and other activities to support the communications and public relations mission of the College. Specifically, this position will think strategically about how to communicate with external and internal audiences online, edit and contribute to the online news center and other web-based communications, work closely with faculty and staff members to create web content that furthers the College's branding goals, edit and proofread content created by other writers, write articles for the alumni magazine and other College publications, contribute to media relations efforts, and monitor how the College is portrayed in non-College websites. This position reports directly to the Director of Media Relations and News Content.
A Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field is required. One to three years of professional experience in providing content for Web or traditional media outlets is preferred. Must have solid analytical and problem-solving skills in addition to excellent interviewing and reporting skills. Computer skills are required (specifically in a Mac environment). Must possess superior grammar and spelling skills as well as copy-editing experience using AP and other styles. The successful candidate will possess the following abilities: to work independently and on deadline; to work well under pressure, to meet deadlines, and to handle multiple projects.
