Position Responsibilities: The Network Administrator is supervised by the Assistant Director of Systems and Networking. The Network Administrator works closely with other members of the Systems Team who manage network services on AIX, Linux, BSD, and Windows servers in a heavily virtualized environment. This position collaborates with the other members in the Office of Information Services to provide generous bandwidth to campus users while ensuring the integrity of the network. As part of the Systems Team, this position will contribute to discussion, development, and deployment of technology affecting the campus. The Network Administrator must stay informed of the latest networking resources and trends, have the ability to effectively manage his or her time, have strong communication skills with University stakeholders, and create high levels of documentation.

Minimum Requirements: At least four years’ experience designing, configuring, and troubleshooting complex, multi-VLAN TCP/IP networks and services in an enterprise computing environment. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills. Understanding of not only the configuration, but also the concepts behind LAN and WAN protocols in use today. Participation in the after-hours emergency response team. Ability to adapt the tools at hand to solve complex problems.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or commensurate experience. AIX, OpenBSD and Linux operating systems experience. Wireless networking with lightweight APs and Cisco WiSM. Providing excellent quality of service to VOIP users, even over wireless networks. Stable work history showing positions of increasing responsibility.
