DUTIES: Write feature-length articles for Pepperdine Web pages, including but not limited to profiles on students, faculty, and alumni (interviews required); write feature-length articles for magazines produced by the Public Affairs team; assist in writing additional magazine and Web content, scheduling photo shoots, and performing related duties; write news releases and report on University events (some weekend and evening reporting required); contribute to and participate in major University Communications initiatives, including advertising campaigns and social media strategy; assist in proofreading written content for Web and print; research and contribute story ideas; publish content to the Web (training provided); perform other duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/TRAINING: Bachelor's degree required, journalism or related field such as English or communications / public relations preferred. Minimum 1-2 years previous experience in a news, media, publishing or public relations environment; publication with byline in news source or magazine (clips required); excellent oral and written communication skills; familiarity with all forms of news writing and Chicago Manual of Style, preferred; personal initiative in identifying stories and promoting the University; creative interest in new media; understanding of the history, mission, and culture of Pepperdine University; ability to multi-task and work well in a team environment; competency with all applicable hardware and software necessary for the completion of tasks.
