Web Content Coordinator

JOB TITLE: Web Content Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Director of Marketing & Communications, University Communications
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Full-Time
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Maintain and expand Web public relations and advertising activities working closely with the University’s Web communications manager and other members of the marketing and communications team. Primarily responsible for social media and other online public relations/communications activities, and for raising the visibility of individual academic departments through myriad Web strategies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Coordinate systemic social media strategy for the university, including:
1. Creating and updating formal social media guidelines, ensuring university and individual department social media presence is coordinated and appropriately reflects university brand and key messaging.
2. Working with individual departments and their students, faculty and alumni to enhance their social media presence, using a variety of tools to drive word-of-mouth marketing.
3. Maintaining and enhancing general university social media presence on Facebook, YouTube and other appropriate venues.
4. Assisting academic departments in developing and implementing strategies to use blogs to expand the visibility of the university and its individual academic departments.
5. Identifying tracking and measuring tools to analyze social media presence and performance.
Update and expand compelling written and multimedia content on the university Web site to enhance visibility and stature with prospective students and other audiences, including:
1. Maintaining the Web home page.
2. Working with the Web communications manager to develop a comprehensive content development and maintenance strategy for academic/department Web pages.
3. Working with department leaders to keep all pages fresh with updated content about events, activities, etc.
4. Creating more multimedia content on university Web site by adding/updating visual and audio elements such as photos, slideshows, videos, podcasts, etc.
5. Researching, compiling, adding and updating student, alumni and faculty testimonials and biographical/career information to university Web site.
6. Developing and implementing a strategy to make Web content more accessible on mobile applications.
7. Assisting Web communications manager in training department staff to maintain and update their own Web pages, when possible and appropriate.
Provide general Web support, including:
1. Assisting in managing general Web content and functionality, as needed.
2. Assisting marketing and communications team in identifying and pursuing online delivery vehicles to promote individual academic programs, including display ads, SEO efforts, etc.
3. Assisting the Web communications manager in developing and implementing Facebook advertising strategy.
4. Assisting the Web communications manager in implementing Web content update ticketing system.
5. Serving as a back-up for other Web management functions.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
2. Related work experience (3-5 years) in Web communications required.
3. Strong familiarity with and enthusiasm for social media tools, trends and tactics, including use of social media personally and/or professionally.
4. Working knowledge of HTML; familiarity with MySQL, XHTML and PHP preferred.
5. Excellent writing and organizational skills.
6. Experience in multimedia content development for the Web, and comprehensive understanding of how to use the Web as a publication venue.
7. Experience in developing Web content for mobile devices.
8. Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to customer service.
9. Ability to work on multiple projects at a time, both independently and as part of a team.
POSITION HOURS: Exempt, Full-Time.
