full time COORDINATOR FOR ORIENTATION AND ADMINISTRATION - Dean of Student Affairs Office

The Dean of Student Affairs Office provides a comprehensive system of activities, support and advocacy for students and their families. The office aims to engage the “whole” student in his or her experience as an undergraduate, striving to bring together the curricular and co-curricular agendas of the university. The office develops and implements policies that address university rules, student safety, privacy, legal issues, liability management, and grievance mechanisms, including addressing issues and cases concerning academic integrity. The Dean’s staff also provides an around the clock on-call system at all times when the college is in session to manage any emergencies and coordinate services with appropriate authorities, students, their families, and the media. The office oversees programs to develop student leadership, student governance structures, and an ongoing bias intervention project.

The departments and functions included in the Dean of Student Affairs division include the Office for Campus Life, the Office of Residential Life & Learning, Judicial Affairs, Medical and Health Accommodations, the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Programs, the Program for Commuting Students, the Africana Center, the Latino Center, the Asian American Center, the International Center, the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Center, and the Women’s Center.

During the spring semester and summer, the major work of the Coordinator for Orientation and Administration position is co-directing, with the Director of the Office for Campus Life and the Program Director for Advising and Scholarships, the orientation program for new students. The work for this position focuses on the overall logistics for the orientation program and coordination with other university departments.

The Coordinator for Orientation and Administration also works directly with the Dean of Student Affairs and independently on a variety of ongoing projects and tasks. Some of these include:

* Monitoring division budgets and other work with the student affairs departments; * Communication with students, faculty, and families; * Communication to the student body; * Coordination and production of the department’s websites and publications; * Monitoring employment forms and expenditures in the Deans departments and tracking spending and equipment inventories, including the computer hardware replacement plan for the division.

The Coordinator for Orientation and Administration serves in the departments efforts and/or represents the dean in protocols for crisis management, emergency commuication systems and contingency preparedness.
Job Requirements

Basic Requirements:

* Bachelor’s degree * Three (3) years of experience working with students in a college environment and at least one (1) year of experience working with college orientation programs for entering students * Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; basic knowledge of web design software; ability and willingness to become proficient in FrontPage * Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, customer service, and written and oral communication skills * Ability to work with a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications:A Masters degree is preferred.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:Some of the work of this position, especially that related to the planning and execution of new student orientation, occurs outside of the regular work day, involving both evening and weekend work.
