Marketing Content Specialist
at State University of New York at New Paltz in New Paltz, NY
The State University of New York at New Paltz seeks an experienced individual to serve as the College’s chief marketing and outreach writer and editor and tell the College’s story through words and images. The candidate will create compelling marketing and public relations content for a range of College communication vehicles both online and in print. He or she will manage and edit the university’s semiannual alumni magazine, The Observer, including developing an online version.
This person will be responsible for creating, writing, distributing and enhancing the College e-newsletters (for internal and external audiences, including alumni and donors) and other marketing materials; managing and editing the alumni magazine; proofreading and posting copy and photographs online; and providing support for the College’s use of social media. This content provider will be expected to write well, swiftly and accurately and possess a deep understanding of institutional goals.
As a member of the College’s Creative Services Team (which includes the College’s writers, videographer, graphic artists, Web designers and printers), this person will also play an active role in implementation of the College’s brand marketing strategy. This individual will also work closely with communication, marketing and development staff, photographers and vendors to achieve integrated marketing communication on campus.
Additional duties will include writing some content for the College Web site; performing systematic content review for official college Web pages; and completing other priority projects as assigned.
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three to five years’ relevant experience or strong background in public relations or marketing is required; preferably in higher education or the non-profit environment.
Required Skills: demonstrated experience consistently communicating an institution’s vision, demonstrated experience writing for and editing online and print publications (especially magazines and newsletters), and demonstrated competency in Web-based environment. Must possess: marketing skills, project team management capabilities; strong writing, proofreading and editing skills, including familiarity with various writing style guides; the ability to juggle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work in a team environment; and a desire to work in an intellectually stimulating campus environment. Experience working with a Web content management system, e-mail marketing software and photo management software is strongly preferred.
