Position Responsibilities: Pittsburg State University invites applications and nominations for the newly created position of Associate Vice President for University Marketing and Communication. Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement, this individual has a mandate to fully integrate campus image delivery and to increase the impact and effectiveness of institutionally communication and marketing initiatives. Specific responsibilities include: – Create and lead a comprehensive communication and integrated marketing program that emphasizes Pittsburg State University’s unique brand and enhances the visibility of university; – Develop internal and external communication plans, including crisis communication and issues management strategies; – Oversee the operation of the Office of University Marketing and Communication, supervising a staff of ten responsible for media relations, publications, the university’s web sites, photography, video, new media, and social media; – Serve as the principal spokesperson for Pittsburg State University; – Provide support to the university president in public affairs and writing activities; – Serve as a resource for the university community on marketing and communication issues and opportunities;

Minimum Requirements: The university seeks an individual who possesses a mature and sophisticated understanding of marketing and image development in higher education and a vision for leading university marketing and communication initiatives at Pittsburg State University commensurate with the institution’s mission statement. – Three to five years experience leading integrated marketing and research initiatives, creating image delivery systems across complex organizations, and managing communication and marketing initiatives in both traditional and emerging communication platforms. – Bachelor’s degree required in marketing, communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field. – Ability to write and speak persuasively about the university to a variety of constituents; – Demonstrated experience as an accomplished communication/marketing professional of unquestioned integrity, sound judgment, considerable energy, a commitment to collaborative work, and a passion for higher education.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in marketing, communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
