Web Systems and Applications Support Specialist (#20094152)

Position Summary: NYU’s core web team seeks a Web Systems and Applications Support Specialist to provide technical support and development of the university’s web environment and key web applications, including NYU Home (portal).
Manage Apache web server for CMS-powered and legacy www sites.
Manage NYU Home portal, including client support, troubleshooting, performance monitoring and tuning, and development of front-facing enhancements and back-end upgrades.
Develop and maintain web components and apps for www and NYU Home portal.
Responsibility for architecting solutions to enhance and upgrade our web service and applications.
Qualifications/Required Education: Bachelor's degree
Required Experience: Apache web server support:
Virtual host configuration, creating proxy rules, creating rewrite rules and deploying sites
SSL installation, renewal, and configuration
Maintaining the Apache web servers and monitoring the Apache processes for CPU, memory, disk usage and reviewing the server logs
Responsible for technology integration, implementation, administration, lifecycle, and planning for key infrastructure systems
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Programming languages:
Perl, PHP, Javascript, CSS, and HTML
Knowledge of bash and Perl shell scripting
Database querying (SQL, MySQL, Oracle)
Strong-to-advanced knowledge of web application management includes development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis and resolution.
Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix environments (file permission, firewall, crontab, etc).
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys successfully managing web sites and applications and working with clients and colleagues to develop enhancements and improvements to them.
Additional requirements:
Bachelor’s degree.
Several years professional experience. (This is not an entry-level job.)
Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
