Description:

The University of California, Merced is the newest and tenth campus of the University of California system and the first American research university built in the 21st century. With more than 5,600 students, UC Merced has planned for additional student growth until we reach an enrollment of approximately 25,000 students. With undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programs, plans for a future medical school program, partnerships and community involvement, the UC Merced campus is continually evolving, requiring talented, knowledgeable and dynamic educators, researchers, management and staff.

The Web Designer is primarily responsible for developing aesthetically-pleasing, engaging front-end website designs that adhere to the university's branding standards;
implementing designs for custom applications and Drupal; working with site managers and IT to ensure university websites are migrated to the campus CMS and new site template, and creating aesthetically-pleasing, engaging graphics for University Communications and clients that will be used on university websites, social media profiles or other online media.

Telecommuting may be an option for the right candidate.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or computer science, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Two+years experience in all aspects of web design with a passion integrating accessibility, performance, elegance, usability and cross-browser compatibility into all aspects of design.

• A strong knowledge of current web design and accepted standards.

• A demonstrated ability to produce aesthetically-pleasing, engaging and usable website designs that are easily translated into Drupal themes.

• Experience in managing websites in Drupal, including installing modules, theming, creating content types and customizing views.

• Proficiency at using Adobe Creative Illustrator, Photoshop and Fireworks.

• Strong project management, organizational and written communication/technical documentation skills.

• Proficiency in and hands-on experience with development using XHTML, HTML and CSS. Proficiency with development tools such as Firebug.

• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to be diplomatic yet persuasive.

• Prior experience in forging and maintaining client relationships.

• Ability to work independently and in teams.

• Ability to multi-task and shift priorities easily.
