Lead Applications Developer
at Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA
Consider becoming a key member of the Bastyr University Information Technology team! We are seeking a full time, salaried Lead Applications Developer to join our team of ten close-knit IT staff members in an organization that honors a passion for excellence while encouraging work-life balance.
The following are the key activities for this position:
• Support existing databases and applications: Provide assistance and routine consultation to internal business users of applications across an array of functional areas. Troubleshoot legacy applications and provide fixes where needed. Modify existing applications as needed to accommodate changing needs. Act as liaison with third-party solutions providers as needed to perform upgrades and troubleshoot problems.
• Application analysis and development: Acting as lead developer, conduct needs analysis, design, develop, test and support various applications and their interfaces to other in house systems. Drive the design, development, implementation, and support of both in-house developed applications as well as packaged applications. Participate in project planning sessions with end users, managers and other team members to analyze business requirements and outline the proposed IT solution – which may include replacing existing applications with third-party applications, modifying existing applications or developing new applications. Document application specifications.
• Team Lead: Make technical recommendations regarding technologies and standards to ensure the highest possible level of application stability, performance and security. Plan and assign projects and tasks to Applications Development staff members as appropriate for their skillsets and availability. Lead and oversee code quality and standards within the application, acting as code reviewer for other application developers to ensure accepted programming standards and techniques. Provide mentoring of Application Development staff. Provide regular progress reports to the Director of Information Technology.
Qualifications:
• A four-year degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is required. Formal education in management and in database theory is preferred.
• Must have strong knowledge of SQL Server, MySQL, PHP, ASP.NET and Microsoft Access.
• Must be familiar with the concepts of object-oriented programming, UI design, project management, software testing, agile development, three-tiered and MVC architectures, reporting and automation.
• Must have thorough understanding of application architecture and standards and of database theory, design and management, including querying, report-writing and web-based user interfaces.
• Three years’ experience designing and developing applications and managing complex databases required. Should have proven track record in management of complex database and/or application development projects. Prefer working knowledge of web development, especially web-based UIs for databases.
• Must have the ability to deal professionally, ethically and legally with confidential data.
• Must maintain a global perspective while being detail-oriented.
• Must have strong verbal and written communication skills; must be good at team-building and able to motivate others.
• Must be able to evaluate, recommend, implement and support solutions for complex database and application needs.
