Graphic Designer
at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio
Collaborating with the Senior Director and other members of the Integrated Marketing and Communications (IMC) team, the Graphic Designer works on a wide variety of creative projects to support John Carroll University’s branding efforts and to help John Carroll’s internal clients connect with key University audiences.
Primary target audiences include prospective students, alumni, donors, and the wider JCU campus community. The Graphic Designer provides design and production solutions for print (and sometimes digital) projects, and works closely with external designers, photographers, printers, and other JCU partners.
Typical day-to-day creative projects include designing ads, brochures, postcards, posters, invitations, and public event promotional materials (including signage). Working in concert with the Senior Director, the Graphic Designer provides continuity for all print projects on deadline.
In a culture that reflects an in-house ad agency model, the Graphic Designer must work efficiently and effectively within existing brand strategy and graphic standards, and he/she must pay careful attention to producing creative work on-time and on-budget. The Graphic Designer must see creative work through from end-to-end—from the initial concept through design, layout, typesetting, and prepress print production—all with a strong sense of customer service.
Success in this role requires a strong commitment to teamwork, creativity, and on-going communication. The Graphic Designer must be skilled at building relationships, providing clear design direction, and must be recognized as a trusted collaborator. Also expected are outstanding project management skills and experience in working in teams to deliver successful results.
You must have a solid understanding of ad agency-like creative processes and be able to multitask.
Prior experience in a higher education environment is strongly preferred.
You should have at least 3-5 years of experience and a track record of achieving marketing goals and meeting the expectations of internal partners through creative design. Expert knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and the print production process is required. A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required. Embracing and being committed to diversity and inclusion is expected.
The ability to communicate the value of higher education and an understanding and appreciation of the Jesuit Catholic tradition and the mission of John Carroll University are critical.
This is a full-time position. Salary commensurate with experience. Interested candidates should apply through the John Carroll University employment website, available at: http://go.jcu.edu/6d
Candidates selected for interviews will be asked to present their creative portfolios and how their design work was used to solve the marketing goals for clients.
