Join the creative team at Warner Pacific College; an urban, Christ-centered liberal arts college. We have been located in this diverse neighborhood of Portland for over 50 years. Our student body is growing and bringing exciting new opportunities to be “In the city…For the city.” Our Mt. Tabor campus has a current opening for a Web Media and Graphic Designer.
Position Title: Web Media and Graphic Designer
FTE Level: 1.0 - Full Time Department: Marketing
Reporting Relationship: Executive Director of Marketing and College Relations
Primary Working Relationships: Executive Director of Marketing and College Relations, Director of Communications, Webmaster, Web Advisory Team
Summary Description: The Web Media and Graphic Designer will be a dynamic and creative member of the Marketing team. He/she will combine strong design talents and technical expertise in Web design and programming to conceptualize, plan, develop and maintain the College’s public websites and electronic media projects. Their positive attitude, ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast paced work environment and willingness to think outside of the box will be an inspiration for creative ideas and compelling story telling.
Essential Functions:
Creative thinker & artist wanted.
• Conceptualize, plan, design, and develop interactive Web and multimedia projects, templates and customized Web pages consistent with college campaigns and recruiting strategy.
• Maintain college website with accurate information, current events, updated stories, and content.
• Coordinate with other Web team members and departments to analyze needs and translate user requests into a web-based/graphic format that communicate a compelling story about the College, its students, faculty, alumni and friends.
• Assist in the development and re-branding of our primary website.
Be ahead of the curve.
• Continually review and analyze Internet and Web trends to assure that the College’s websites and marketing approach is current, effective, and targets the right audience and is accessible by as many users as possible.
• Increase online presence in social media channels and development of an aggressive social media strategy.
• Strategize with Web team regarding new tools that would provide additional functionality for users.
Strong customer service.
• Support faculty, staff, and student organizations with development and maintenance of marketing-driven or educational web pages.
• Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and other key stakeholders.
Results-driven.
• Define project goals and complete projects while adhering to the established schedule.
• Be present in the office on a daily basis during College business hours (unless arrangements are made with the employee’s direct supervisor.)
Team player.
• Be a self-starter, self managed team member with strong problem solving skills, patience and a sense of humor!
• Contribute to the support and implementation of the College Strategic Plan.
• Participate in Warner Pacific College professional development opportunities.
• Provide additional support to the Executive Director of Marketing and College Relations when requested.
• Demonstrate commitment to a Christian liberal arts education by upholding to the mission of the College and abiding by the Employment Standards and Lifestyle Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Expertise with a variety of web development technologies, scripting tools, and database systems, such as (X)HTML, Javascript, CSS, XML, ASP.NET 2.0 or higher, VB.NET, AJAX, Microsoft Visual Studio.NET, Adobe, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Microsoft Expressions, MSSQL, ODBC and ADO.
• Understanding of web design practices for cross-platform, multi-browser compatibility and accessibility.
• Understanding of principles of content management systems and web-database applications.
• Bachelor degree or educational background in a related field such as Web, digital media, computer science, graphic design or related work experience preferred.
• Proficient in computer programs including Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of people and commitment to diversity.
• Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently.
• Ability to multi-task with accuracy and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to adapt and work effectively in a varied-paced or fast-paced environment.
• Skilled in effective oral and written communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of computing in a higher education environment.
• Familiar with W3C coding standards.
• Familiarity with RSS feeds, Flash, media streaming and web animation concepts.
• MySQL, PHP, Moodle, and Ektron CMS 7.6 familiarity also preferred.
Physical Demands – Work Environment:
The position is located in a typical office environment. Professional/business casual attire is required.
