full time Network Manager

at Washington and Lee University in Virginia

The Network Manager works with the Director in the planning, configuration, operation, and maintenance of the campus network. Network includes new Juniper core routers arranged in 20-GB ring and Juniper and Nortel/Avaya edge switches; Aruba access points and security switch controllers and gateways; Internet-facing routers, firewalls, traffic managers; VPN equipment; auxiliary systems for PBX , VoIP, and data centers. Job includes network design, configuration, provisioning, installation, operation, troubleshooting, hardware and software upgrades. Current projects include new on-campus colo cage design and planning for summer 2012 occupancy and expanded WAN capacity planning for new equipment and service providers. The Network Manager is one of three individuals responsible for the entire campus network infrastructure and is an integral part of a larger ITS team supporting the campus computing environment.

•Demonstrated competence with advanced network switching and routing (OSPF, BGP) and related technologies (MPLS, VPLS, QoS, PIM-SM, etc.). Juniper-specific experience preferred; comparable training with other vendors considered.
•Experience with enterprise-level WLAN systems (Aruba preferred) and related AAA, etc.
•Experience with ISP , WAN, and Internet service delivery methods (DIA, L2 transport, Metro-E)
•Experience with Internet bandwidth management strategies and systems (Exinda preferred)
•Comfortable with Windows, Linux, their environments and administration. VMware a plus.
•Experience with network monitoring and logging (Nagios, Cacti, SIEM)
•Experience with network and end-point security (firewalls, IPS/IDS, ACLs, host assessments)
•Highly self-motivated; proactive, productive and comfortable in an academic environment
•Committed to continued learning of new and emerging technologies relevant to this position

Bachelor’s degree required with at least five (5) years of increasingly focused experience in designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and supporting medium sized computer networks, preferably in an academic setting. Certifications will be useful (particularly Juniper or Aruba) but secondary in importance to relevant job experience, capabilities, and responsibilities. Written and verbal communications skills are very important. Proven ability to attend to detail is absolutely required. The successful applicant for this position will possess a sincere desire to help people and the ability to communicate and deliver problem resolutions in a timely fashion.
