The Faculty of Arts and Science at New York University is seeking a creative, technically savvy individual to fulfill the role of Director, Communications. S/he will direct the development of web, print, media, and social networking services for 60+ FAS departments/programs. In conjunction with Senior Leadership, develop and determine the visual identity and branding for the FAS Division, in addition to individual departments and programs. Oversee design, strategy, and maintenance of an enterprise-class web site. Enhance and maintain web content management tools to empower departmental content teams with advanced web editing capabilities. Manage the communications budget, monitoring expenses and maximizing available resources. Direct the marketing efforts of the FAS Division through electronic and print means. Manage division-wide projects related to consistency, upgrades, etc. Liaise with other internal and external parties to incorporate FAS structure and strategy with that of the University. Conduct trainings on use of technology and media. Write and edit copy.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree Preferred Education: Master's degree in Communications, Web Development, Marketing, or a related field. Required Experience: 5-7 years' relevant experience with Web Development, site architecture development, and administration for large-scale web site or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience planning web/print/media publications, marketing communications, and advertising materials. Must include experience maintaining servers, access, and security. Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and Javascript programming. Must have prior experience managing budgets and supervising staff. Preferred Experience: Experience in an academic environment. Experience with XSLT and PHP or JSP a strong plus. Knowledge of CGI and PERL preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidate should possess impeccable writing/editing ability, excellent verbal, presentation, and organization skills with the ability to manage concurrent projects and meet multiple deadlines. Ability to generate creative ideas and work independently. Extensive knowledge of content management systems. Ability to develop and implement on-line marketing strategies. Ability to monitor, analyze, and report on web analytics. Thorough knowledge of current and emerging technologies. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to report on server performance and use.
