Notes: This is a full-time, contract position. Expected duration - 2 year contract.

Effective September 1, 2009, the University of California, Riverside has implemented a one-year Furlough/Salary Reduction Plan due to the state budget crisis. Under the plan, this position’s work time will be reduced by a specified number of days according to the salary for this position, with a commensurate reduction in pay evenly distributed over a 12-month period. Essential Functions: The Web Application Developer works with the digital communications team to complete the upgrade of the entire UC Riverside web presence under the campus style guidelines, in accordance with the Integrated Marketing Plan.

This is a two-year contract assignment. The duties of the Web Application Developer also include managing priority web projects for the Chancellor that effectively tell the UC Riverside story. In addition, the position entails assisting the team’s programming efforts in website re-design projects for academic colleges (i.e. Bourns College of Engineering, School of Business Administration, among others) as well as administration departments and centers across campus.

This position works under the direction of the Director of Digital Communications.

Minimum Requirements:
• Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science or related field.
• Experience managing a variety of projects with varied time lines, priorities, and resources.
• Demonstrated experience in identifying and addressing security issues in a complex computing environment.
• Experience in configuring, testing, implementing and maintaining open source software solutions.
• Working experience in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of multi-user relational database management systems and their applications.
• In-depth experience in accessibility issues, cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility, and smooth degradation of code.
• Excellent communication skills, time management abilities, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated skill in expressing ideas clearly and convincingly both verbally and in writing.
• Skill in writing computer documentation clearly and concisely for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Skills and knowledge not explicitly referenced above, but necessary to perform duties in the job description.
• In-depth knowledge of web application development, utilizing HTML, Javascript, CSS, XML, PHP, and Perl.
• In-depth knowledge of relational databases (MySQL), ODBC access methods, and the client/server model.
• Knowledge of current computing, network, operating system, and software development trends.
• Working knowledge of database design techniques required to create database tables necessary to support web sites.
• Ability to learn new related skills on an ongoing basis.
• Ability to analyze, design, code, test, debug, and document moderate to complex computer programs.
• Proven, demonstrated ability to work independently and develop sophisticated software systems.
• Ability to communicate information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• The ability to be flexible, cooperative, and collaborative in fast-paced, time-sensitive, dynamic, and intellectually stimulating environment.
• Temperament to work with users on a daily basis to respond to their web informational requirements and requests as unstructured as they may be.
• Hired applicant must successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Photoshop or Illustrator.
• Demonstrated experience in high-quality GUI design.
• Experience in a college or university environment.
• Knowledge of University of California policies and procedures.
• Familiarity with software solutions for online survey and experimental research.
• Ability to train and deploy student research assistants in web development and programming projects.
