UIT works in partnership with schools, business units, and other academic support organizations to provide campus-wide services in the areas of academic and research technology, enterprise application systems and services, networking and telecommunications, information security, data center operations, and user support, training and outreach.
The LAN Systems group consists of Microsoft operating systems administrators and network administrators who oversee and manage the servers and infrastructure constituting the Tufts Microsoft domain. This LAN environment spans all three Tufts campuses and contains approximately 100+ servers both physical and virtual, utilizing VMware ESX 3.5, and over 12,500 domain accounts. The group manages over 200 TB of storage including 50 TB of file sharing storage on a NetApp NAS cluster, a NetApp 270c for the Medical School, and a high availability environment VMware deployment using Equallogic iSCSI storage.
The Windows System Administrator position’s key responsibilities include installation, configuration, securing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and support of the Windows 2000/2003 servers that make up the Tufts domain. In addition this position will be involved in tasks such as storage management with CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, FC protocols, login scripting; Microsoft Exchange support; SMS; MOM; project participation; virus protection; evaluation and implementation of third party products; performance and tuning; capacity planning; change control; problem resolution; and liaison with other Tufts system administration groups.
Basic Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree * Five (5) years of related technical experience * Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) * 1) At least five years experience in systems administration in a Windows 2000/2003 environment; 2) Expert knowledge of Microsoft BackOffice products such as Exchange 2003/2007, SMS, MOM, IIS and SQL Server; 3) Experience with an Active Directory Services environment; 4) Expert knowledge of WINS, TCP/IP and experience working with DDNS and DHCP; 5) Experience with scripting (batch file, KiXtart, VB Script, Powershell language; 6) Experience with SAN Storage; 7) At least 3 years experience with VMWare ESX 3.x, VCenter in an HA environment * Experience working in a large, decentralized, multi-platform, multi-protocol production environment * Solid project management and technical planning experience with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects; and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels within the universityPreferred Qualifications: Experience with the following is a plus: MIIS, LDAP, BIND DNS, NetScreen Firewall, Legato Networker, Trend Micro Server Protect, NTP Quota and File Sentinal, application servers, Web servers, and gateways. Experience with the following hardware is a plus: HP Servers, Dell Servers, Network Appliance (NetApp), Equallogic.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: Person will be required to be on call 7×24 on a rotating schedule.
