ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT - Arts and Sciences and Engineering Tufts Fund
at Tufts University - Medford in Boston
The Tufts Fund for Arts, Sciences and Engineering seeks a resourceful individual with superior interpersonal and relationship building skills to fill its available position of Associate Director, Volunteer Management. The Tufts Fund for Arts, Sciences and Engineering is critical to the successful operation of the arts, sciences and engineering programs at Tufts University as it currently raises $8+ million dollars annually, with nearly 80% going toward unrestricted budget-relieving purposes. Gifts made through the annual giving program support financial aid, faculty salaries, and curriculum development and student activities. In addition, the Tufts Fund staff plays the most significant role in strengthening alumni participation in Tufts’ fundraising efforts, one of the statistics used by U.S. News & World Report when determining college rankings. The Tufts Fund is a critical entry point for young alumni participation, setting the stage for long term philanthropy at Tufts, and it is a resource for identifying future major gift prospects for Capital Fund projects. The Tufts Fund volunteer structure that is now under development will have a significant impact on the success of the Tufts Fund during the university’s $1+ billion comprehensive campaign.
The Associate Director, Volunteer Management, reports to the Director of the Tufts Fund, and is responsible for setting and implementing the strategic direction of the Tufts Fund Gift Officer Program, through which a corps of alumni and student volunteers (gift officers) conduct peer to peer solicitations to raise money and increase participation rates for the Tufts Fund. She/he will manage the Volunteer Program Coordinator and with him, will provide oversight for all volunteer training programs including those on setting fundraising goals, solicitation techniques, and department policies and practices.
The Associate Director will also be responsible for increasing the size and scope of the Gift Officer Program to increase the number of peer to peer solicitations made annually. He/she will oversee the creation of cost-efficient systems to effectively support these volunteers, playing a lead role in identifying and implementing an online volunteer support site partnering with web communications and information services staff, as well as outside vendors. The Associate Director will be expected to identify and recruit new volunteers by doing creative, and extensive outreach to student groups, alumni, and colleagues. This program is a primary vehicle through which the university will increase the rate of alumni participation in fundraising, and this position will be responsible and held accountable for building the program to achieve that goal.
The Associate Director will work directly with volunteers engaged in the Student Fund, Young Alumni fundraising, and the 25th and 50th reunions and also have primary responsibility for growing the number of volunteers in each of these areas. She/he will also develop regular mechanisms to keep gift officers actively engaged with fundraising, and with Tufts itself, by partnering with other university offices, and will provide reports and create other feedback mechanisms to keep them apprised of their progress. This position will also be responsible for providing appropriate and prompt stewardship of all gift officers to aid in their retention.
