QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
• Bachelor's degree.
• Two years experience developing/designing web applications with scripting languages such as PHP, Python or Perl in conjunction with a database such as MySQL or Oracle.
• Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience.
• Proven success in web design and developing relational, database-driven web applications.
• Extensive knowledge of HTML and web scripting languages such as PHP, Python, or Perl.
• Exceptional visual communication skills and strong written communication skills.
• Self-starter with demonstrated experience managing projects and working independently and as a team member.
• Ability to translate concepts into effective and functional electronic communication.
• Ability to research and learn new software and technologies and use them creatively.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with customers and colleagues.
Preferred:
• Degree in Computer Graphics, Computer Technology, Computer Science or related field.
• Experience with CSS, Joomla, JavaScript and Flash.
• Experience with current technology in programming, dynamic web site development, and creation of web graphics.
• Experience with online content management systems, video and audio production for the web, mass communication via email, and print production.
• A working understanding of cross-browser/platform web development issues.
• Knowledge of social networking and emerging technologies.

JOB DUTIES

Join our team of researchers developing the HUBzero platform for scientific collaboration, a unique blend of high-performance computing and social networking. HUBzero is a Purdue-developed platform that powers nanoHUB and provides access directly within a browser to interactive programs. This year nanoHUB reached 90,000 users who ran 400,000 simulations using 150 hosted programs to model nanoscale phenomena. Using the HUBzero.org software platform, 10 new hubs and more to follow are rapidly bringing the nanoHUB concept to new communities of interest.

The Web Application Programmer will use Web 2.0 technologies to design, develop and implement innovative web applications for HUBzero. Work closely with client areas to identify needs and develop creative solutions focused on interactivity and ease of use. Stay current with emerging Web technologies and recommend development techniques that will support Purdue's computing capabilities.

HUBzero is in the Rosen Center for Advanced Computing (RCAC), a research computing center providing advanced computing resources and support services including access to leading-edge computational and data storage systems, as well as expertise in a broad range of high performance computing activities, to support the computationally-intensive research of Purdue faculty, staff and research partners nationwide.
