User Support Specialist

Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college with approximately 2100 students located in northwest Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of User Support Specialist to provide front-line technology support within the Computing Services’ User Services group. In coordination with other user support staff, the User Support Specialist is responsible for staffing the call center to ensure questions regarding the college’s standard suite of software and hardware are answered in a timely and professional manner. This position will also assist with the training of the student workforce, development of web-based tutorials, and training for users. The User Support Specialist will work closely with technicians, network administrators, and other IT professionals within Computing Services to proactively support end-user technology needs. This is a full-time, exempt, administrative position.
The successful applicant must possess a strong commitment to excellent customer service; strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills; good organizational abilities; and excellent problem solving skills. A bachelor degree in a related field or two years professional experience providing software and hardware support is required. Sustained success in this position requires the ability to work in a collaborative team atmosphere and the interest and ability to acquire additional computing and technical skills as needed. Documented ability to diagnose and troubleshoot across a broad range of PC and Apple hardware and software applications including but not limited to Windows XP and Vista, Microsoft Office, email clients, web authoring software, and Mac OSX will strengthen a candidate’s application, as will any relevant Microsoft Certifications.
