LEAD SECOND COOK - Dining Services
at Tufts University - Medford in Medford, MA
This position is 40 hours per week, 42 weeks per year. This position has a rotating schedule to frequently include nights and weekends. All hours are subject to change, and may be adjusted to meet business demands.
Tufts Dining Services manages the food service program of the University delivering the highest quality products and services in a fiscally responsible manner. The department provides contract board plan services to the student population as well as retail and catering services for faculty, staff and guests of the University.
The The Lead Second Cook is responsible for cooking independently as part of a team and assisting with the coordination of the work of the unit culinary staff to meet the goals and targets of the unit. The Lead Second Cook will prepare a variety of menu items for service following established department recipes in quantities forecasted and planned in advance using a variety of cooking methods. S/he will lead a kitchen shift crew by assigning work, evaluating quality, ensuring timely meal preparation and enforcing standards of quality and sanitation in the absence of the First Cook. S/he will work closely with the First Cook and Chef Manager to execute unit culinary goals.
Job Requirements
Basic Requirements: This position requires 5-7 years of related experience and a High School diploma or GED. The selected candidate must speak, read and understand English and must be willing to be held accountable for the work of others. S/he must be an effective communicator.
Preferred Qualifications: An Associates degree in Culinary Arts is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of quantity cooking experience with outstanding leadership experience or potential is preferred. A high level of expertise with quantity food production as well as a demonstrated ability to coordinate the work of others through logical, efficient and productive processes is highly desirable.
