SUMMARY
The Web Systems Administrator develops, designs, and maintains all aspects of Centenary College’s web systems for external and internal audiences. The Administrator works with faculty and staff to plan and execute opportunities to maximize the problem-solving capabilities of technologies within the web infrastructure and enhance the College’s overall web presence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Responsible for planning and maintaining all aspects of operations for web systems.
*Accountable for the availability and functionality of web systems across multiple audiences and technological environments.
*Writes structured original programming with detailed documentation using server- and client-side web scripting as needed to augment functionality of off the shelf systems.
*Works with Associate Director for Digital Media to create web designs that meet the requirements of Departments or individual projects. Responsible for translating these designs into web templates.
*Collaborates with other External Relations staff to ensure accurate and up-to-date information and applications across the college website.
*Maintains, upgrades, and replaces existing web applications as necessary.
*Utilizes and upgrades the existing content management system as appropriate, working to improve functionality for both web viewers and web editors.
*Maintains compliance with evolving web standards across standard web browsers on desktops and mobile devices.
*Generates original web content as necessary, including original graphics, text, and other multimedia using photo and video editing software; edits and improves externally-generated content as necessary.
*Evaluates and provides expert advice concerning the utilization and expansion of web technologies.
*Captures web-related analytics and provides reports on web operations and activities as requested.
*Participates in key departmental projects and strategic initiatives and cross-trains with External Relations staff to provide redundant support.
*Consults and trains members of the campus community on effective uses of web technology, design, and development.
*Other related projects, duties, and responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversees contract of temporary, or part-time workers
• May also manage student internships as time allows
QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below represents a variety of essential knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in this position.
MINIMUM
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience configuring, optimizing, and maintaining a modern LAMP stack.
*Demonstrated advanced proficiency in writing and editing Javascript, HTML, and CSS.
*Demonstrated experience with a server-side programming environment such as PHP, Python, Perl, or Ruby.
*Experience in creating standards-compliant web pages and applications that are CSS-mediated and DOM-scripted
*Experience leveraging modern Javascript libraries (e.g., jQuery, Prototype, etc.) to solve a variety of problems, including subtle issues of cross-platform compatibility, data exchange with web services, AJAX, etc. (Custom Javascript programming will be required on a regular basis.)
*High level of familiarity with relational database systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, mSQL, etc. and should be comfortable with hand-coded SQL syntax.
*Excellent oral and written communication skills.
*Must be able to work in an organized self-directed manner in a high-energy, high-traffic area.

PREFERRED
*Five or more years relevant experience designing and/or managing Enterprise web systems.
*Familiarity with or experience in a higher education setting.
*Proficiency with advanced graphic design.
