Web Developer
at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business in Chicago
The Web Developer (WD) contributes to the evolution and maintenance of a fresh, functional, and compelling online presence that clearly conveys the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business (Chicago Booth) brand image. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Interactive, the WD acts as one of the developers for websites, microsites, emails, and other interactive marketing vehicles for Chicago Booth. The WD continually implements enhancements in structure, content placement, and functionality on Chicago Booth's internal and external web sites.
1. Work as a part of the development team in building and maintaining standards-based websites and email templates and tagging website code for the content management system.
2. Serve as department's "level 2" support and troubleshoot technical problems identified by the team, clients or external visitors.
3. Provide support for key interactive marketing tools (i.e chat, discussion forums, RSS feeds, podcasts, blogs, event management system, content management system, metrics, surveying and search tools).
4. Documents, develops, and maintains code for connectivity with external web services and APIs.
5. Work with the Associate Director of Interactive on the continual evolution of Chicago Booth development standards and enforcing adherence to the standards for Chicago Booth's online presence.
6. Work with the Web Support Specialist (Webhelp) to manage and meet established Service-Level-Agreements for maintenance and support activities.
7. Assist Associate Director of Interactive with creation and maintenance of Interactive Marketing's web development standards and procedural documentation.
8. Continually monitor website to ensure accuracy, consistency and proper functionality.
9. Manage website architecture, including, but not limited to, file naming conventions, code consistency, and multimedia content placement/distribution on the web.
10. Maintain site code to support ongoing metrics capture.
11. Assist in training of student web development assistants.
12. Perform quality assurance checks on web development projects.
13. Other related projects as assigned.
Requirements:
Associate's degree or a minimum of three years of professional web development experience required; web development experience in a professional setting required; demonstrated track record of successful project and time management experience required; solid working knowledge of XHTML hand-coding, CSS positioning, XML, and JavaScript required; solid working knowledge of web service consumption and APIs required; familiarity with XSLT and XPath required; familiarity with ASP.NET/C# or similar server-side programming language required; solid understanding of accessibility and usability, including cross-platform and browser issues, required; strong interpersonal communication skills, verbal and written, required; strong attention to detail required; solid understanding of interactive user experience best practices required; solid technical understanding of operating systems (e.g., Windows and Mac), the Internet and developing websites in a Windows environment required; solid understanding of FTP/SFTP, Adobe Photoshop or comparable software required; solid understanding of Microsoft Office suite required; ability to work effectively in both team situations and independently required; prolonged use of computer and intensive keyboard use required; familiarity with Macromedia Flash, search engine optimization, and audio and video editing preferred.
