Job Description

The Web content producer works with other staff in the Office of University Relations to build awareness and understanding of Mississippi State University among external and internal audiences through creation of editorial content for major components of the university’s extensive Web site (www.msstate.edu). The Web content producer works as part of a Web development team to create, improve and maintain Web pages for the university. The Web content producer reports to the assistant director.

Specifically, the Web content producer will:
• Research, write and edit for Web pages and other new media.
• Prepare other editorial content including graphics and multimedia.
• Update and maintain the accuracy of previously published information.
• Assist with usability studies to improve information architecture and user interface.
• Translate print publications to online content.
• Write and/or produce multimedia for non-Web projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in English, communication, public relations, or other relevant field.
• At least 3 years of experience writing, designing and/or producing multimedia for the Web and a portfolio of writing, graphics and multimedia projects.
• Strong understanding of the constraints and possibilities of Web technologies, Web standards, and accessibility. Solid understanding of HTML and CSS.
• Demonstrated understanding of writing style appropriate for Web content and familiarity with the AP style manual.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Initiative, tenacity and diplomacy; detail orientation; good organizational skills; the ability to learn new skills quickly; and the ability to work with diverse groups of people, multi-task, meet deadlines, and work on both team and one-person projects.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Relevant experience in a higher education setting.
• Experience creating Web sites including design work.
• Experience producing RSS feeds and podcasts, and Web audio, video and Flash components.
