Associate Director of Creative Services

Valparaiso University, one of the nation's premier master's level universities, seeks an outstanding Associate Director of Creative Services.
Primary Responsibility
The Associate Director of Creative Services for Integrated Marketing and Communications supports the mission of Valparaiso University by helping design and implement strong marketing communication strategies communicating the mission and vision of Valpo while building relationships with the campus community, and with alumni and donors. The associate director demonstrates solid writing and editing skills, and can analyze and offer solutions to a host of marketing communication challenges and follow through with implementing them.
As part of the above, the associate director helps design and manage marketing communication tools, including print and electronic. The associate director works closely with individuals in enrollment, the Office of Institutional Advancement, deans and other campus administrators.
Reporting Relationship
1. Reports to the Senior Director of Creative Services for Integrated Marketing and Communications.
2. Will join a strong, six-person team in the Creative Services unit of Integrated Marketing and Communications, including the senior director, a director of graphic design, an associate director of graphic design, and an associate director of editorial.
3. Works with other staff members within Integrated Marketing Communications on projects targeting enrollment and fundraising.
4. Collaborates with other individuals on campus, including administrators, faculty and deans to achieve a variety of marketing communication goals.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Understands the mission and vision of Valparaiso University and can effectively communicate it to an audience.
2. Supports the work of Integrated Marketing and Communications as it strives to achieve goals related to strengthening university enrollment and building relationships with alumni and donors to raise funds for the university.
3. Strong project manager able to conceive and follow through with ideas to help departments reach goals.
4. Writes and edits for a variety of marketing tools—publications, direct mailings, speeches, letters, e-communications, and the Web—determining the most effective editorial content.
5. Understands the concepts of good design.
6. Works closely with other campus administrators, faculty and deans on marketing communication projects.
7. Participates on committees designed to strengthen and improve Valpo’s marketing communications.
Qualifications
1. B.A. or higher, in journalism or communications, or related field.
2. Five years experience in writing and editing for professional publications. Strong written and verbal skills, with a solid portfolio of published work that demonstrates skill in analysis, creativity, writing and editing.
3. Self-starter with excellent project management abilities can inspire and direct others in their work. Able to shepherd projects from concept to completion, enlisting the support and enthusiasm of others in the process.
4. Demonstrated creative thinker in developing editorial content and solutions to marketing communication challenges.
5. Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well alone, one-on-one, or as part of a larger team.
6. Proven ability to meet deadlines.
7. Familiar with Associated Press Style Guide.
8. Willing and able to support the mission of Valparaiso University.
