Cornerstone University Graphic Designer
The Graphic Designer is a full-time appointment reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications. The Graphic Designer is responsible for designing university publications (print and electronic), providing oversight for the production of Cornerstone University marketing projects and helping to maintain university graphic standards on all communication materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Work with the Art Director to maintain university-wide graphic standards for print and electronic communications materials.
• Play a key role in maintaining Cornerstone’s brand image in print and electronic materials.
• Manage production of assigned materials, keeping within project timelines set by the project manager and helping to ensure deadlines are met on time, within budget and with quality design.
• Serve campus clients by taking publications from concept to final production in a way that creatively meets their objectives and those of the university.
• Ability to work as part of a team within a busy office environment, managing numerous projects at once.
• Work with the project manager to ensure that all pieces follow internal project process and are proofed and edited prior to production.
• Maintain accurate records of jobs in progress through “Markie,” the Marketing and Communication Office's project management system.
• Communicate with vendors as needed regarding production of materials.
• Meet weekly with marketing staff members to review and prioritize projects.
• Seek out formal and informal training opportunities to improve one’s design skills.
• Help build an overall positive work environment and team experience.
• Help to catalog artwork files and photography files for regular use and archival purposes.
• Maintain proficiency in design software including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat as well as awareness of design trends and styles.
• Assist in digital photography as needed.
Essential Requirements
• A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and an active Christian commitment.
• A theology that supports the values and mission of Cornerstone University.
• A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communication or a related field.
• 1-3 years of experience in graphic design.
• Proven skills in publication development and direction.
• Proficiency in the following software programs: Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop), Acrobat, MS Word, Excel within a PC environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage numerous projects simultaneously in fast-paced environment.
• Strong detail orientation with commitment to accuracy and the pursuit of excellence.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with faculty and staff on campus and maintain a good working relationship with them.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities.
• Strong team and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated and self-starter.
• Experience working in higher education
• Strong trouble-shooting skills in the areas of printing, pre-press, and computer software.
• Web design skills a plus (knowledge and understanding of HTML and CSS).
