Web Content Specialist

Basic Function
California Lutheran University seeks candidates for the position of Web Content Specialist. This person works as a member of the Web Team to edit and write content for websites, develop content standards and policies, train and support campus web content contributors, and coordinate the production of new websites. The Web Content Specialist will ensure that content adheres to high standards for accuracy, message consistency and usability.
This person will collaborate closely with the University Marketing team to collaborate on projects and create content that communicates and promotes CLU’s brand. This position demands strong attention to detail to ensure accurate application of policies, proficiency in using content management systems, strong collaborative skills, and an ability to write and present information in a clear and compelling manner.
Representative Duties
• Editing and writing duties include the review and editing of content for the website, writing copy for various CLU websites and e-mail campaigns, serving as social media coordinator, and writing feature stories for our online channels.
• Website production duties include working with internal clients to determine their needs and goals, and then collaborating with members of the Web Team to design and create websites that meet those needs.
• Training and support duties include creating help content for web content contributors, responding to e-mail and phone requests for support, and serving as classroom trainer.
• Social media duties include creating content for the main institutional accounts and collaborating with other departments to ensure compliance with social media guidelines and best practices.
Knowledge of:
• Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation; meticulous copyediting and proofreading skills.
• Demonstrated skills in writing, editing, and effective communication with a variety of constituencies.
• Writing for the web.
• User-centered web content development and a strong instinct for usability and effective content organization.
• HTML markup language for formatting and styling web content.
• Basic content management processes.
• Basic image editing skills.
Ability to:
• Strong interpersonal communication, diplomacy, and relationship-building skills to establish and maintain effective working partnerships with internal clients and other staff members; ability to work both independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
• Strong organization and time-management skills: demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize and manage a high-volume of assignments, with frequent interruptions to complete tasks in a timely manner.
• Ability to organize multiple layers of copy and maintain consistency in voice, brand and site architecture.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically.
• Ability to prepare and run training sessions for CMS users.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or similar field.
• Three or more years experience in writing and editing web content.
• Experience making editorial decisions about design, layout and content structure for usability.
• Experience with major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn).
