Department Description
The department of Academic Technology provides a full range of technology services to the Division of Academic Affairs. The Division is made up of eight colleges and numerous centers, offices, and programs. The organization is responsible for the creation, management, upgrade, and re-design of Academic Affairs' websites and the management of BeachBoard (Blackboard), the university learning management system. BeachBoard courses are automatically created for each course in the university's schedule. Instructors use BeachBoard to post their course syllabi, lecture materials, assignments, and discussions.


Appointment Dates
Full-time temporary position for four years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.


Time Base/Hours/Units per Week
Full time/40 hours per week


Salary
The salary range for this classification is $4,314 to $8,831 per month. Starting salary may be set as high as $5,443 per month based on experience.


Position Description
The incumbent is responsible for the automation, administration, development, planning, redesign, and maintenance of the web sites and Web content management systems in Academic Technology Services.

The incumbent, using systematic processes analytical thinking and outstanding customer communication skills, develops and integrates new applications and technology into web sites, administers content management systems, develops Web enabled software applications to improve services, and provides technical support to CSULB's Division of Academic Affairs web site owners.

In addition to Web responsibilities, the incumbent is a team member with responsibilities for other programming and data integration projects supporting the division.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated ability to develop technology solutions and build tools to improve web site creation, enhance user experience, usability, impact, creation, and management by developing data collection tools, intelligent websites, and Web pages through the use of content management systems, RSS feeds, and Web 2.0 features, and integrate social networking into websites.

Commitment to high standards, teamwork, and a customer service orientation.

Demonstrates appropriate independent decision making appropriate for the position and responsibilities.

Writing and communication skills to support editing and writing content suitable for Web delivery and working closely with nontechnical customers. Ability to easily translate technical information to nontechnical customers and provide written technical information to nontechnical users.

Knowledge of Section 508 Web accessibility requirements and how to remediate Web content that does not comply.

Ability to interpret user needs into workable solutions.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.

Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."


Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or related technical field and two years of web page and web site creation with accessibility (ADA compliance) focus or equivalent experience required.

Two years of experience building Web-based self service software applications using ASP.NET (VB) scripting for MS SQL Server.

Two years of experience working with end users translating complex business processes into technology solutions.

Experience customizing, implementing, and administering a database enabled content management system.

Experience writing programs in ASP.NET (VB)/SQL scripts, PERL, and PHP to automate processes and procedures and building database driven websites.

Experience configuring administering Web content management systems and supporting customers using Web content management tools to update websites. Experience developing CSS to support standard website appearance and improve Section 508 compliance.
