full time Digital Strategist

at The Lawlor Group in Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Lawlor Group, one of the nation’s leading higher education marketing firms, is seeking a digital strategist to work with our clients — private colleges and universities — in developing and executing web-based strategies in support of their institutional marketing, enrollment, and fund-raising goals.

This position is a hybrid role between account manager and interactive project manager — providing strategic counsel to our clients about their web presence and then managing project teams to execute those recommendations. This is a role for a generalist who is well-versed, skilled in, and passionate about the entire digital spectrum. While the focus of this position is primarily on “traditional” website design and development, this individual will collaborate closely with and be an advocate for the work of our social media strategist focusing on social, new, and emerging media.

AS A MEMBER OF THE LAWLOR GROUP TEAM ...

You would:

  • Serve as the lead/project manager for wide variety of digitally focused projects.
  • Work with members of the account management team throughout the business development process, identifying client needs and proposing solutions.
  • Oversee the work of a team of digital specialists selected for the assignment, including information architects, designers, writers, developers, search engine marketers, and beyond.
  • On occasion, fill in where necessary — from developing a site map to writing copy to deploying an e-mail marketing campaign.
  • Present digital strategies and concepts to clients, and serve as a key point of contact with the client throughout the assignment.
  • Ensure the successful completion of all digital projects both on time and on budget.
  • Stay abreast of and educate clients and colleagues about interactive marketing best practices and emerging trends and technologies—from speaking at industry conferences to conducting hands-on workshops and one-on-one training sessions with clients.
  • Manage The Lawlor Group’s digital presence, including its website, mobile site, and e-mail marketing efforts.

YOU’D BE A GOOD FIT FOR THIS JOB IF:

You can:

  • Do a lot of different things.
  • Confidently manage a project from start to finish, facilitating communication between internal project team members, and between project teams and clients.
  • Translate technical jargon into language the rest of the world gets.

You have:

  • An understanding of and appreciation for higher education — especially the liberal arts.
  • 5-10 years of experience in higher education, admissions and enrollment, institutional marketing, and/or fund-raising — and their relationship to the digital space. (Or, transferable experience in interactive marketing and communications.)
  • Solid knowledge of the entire web development process, from strategy to architecture, design, development, search engine marketing, measurement, and more.
  • A basic understanding of the technical underpinning of websites. (Back-end development skills not required, but knowing the difference between PHP and .Net will help.)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and a high comfort level with front-end web development tools and programming languages (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, CSS, etc.).
  • The ability to work independently with minimal direction, while also functioning and contributing as part of a team.

You are:

  • Flexible.
  • Not afraid to say what you think.
  • Okay with getting your hands dirty.
  • An excellent writer.
  • Comfortable with some gray in your life.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Inquisitive.
  • Smart.
  • Collaborative.
  • Fun.
