Director of Web Services
at University of Southern Mississippi in Mississippi
The University of Southern Mississippi seeks a creative, knowledgeable, and user-oriented Director of Web Services to lead and coordinate the design, structure, and content management of the University’s public web presence and internal websites, with ongoing attention to quality, innovation and usability.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Provides leadership and strategic direction related to the enhancement of the University’s web service capabilities and supports local and system-wide projects related to e-publishing and other public access digital services
• Facilitates University-wide planning related to new application development tools and technologies for web-based services
• Recommends policies, develops and promotes best practices and quality standards related to web design and management
• Works closely and collaboratively with individuals, team members, departmental staff as well as key stakeholders regarding design and content issues, infrastructure and technical support issues
• Effectively and proactively manages a staff of three and drives the creation of new web resources/tools and maintenance of existing content and services
Qualifications
• Minimal five years experience designing, producing, and maintaining web sites, including knowledge of user interface issues, information design, and visual design
• Masters of Computer Science preferred
• Outstanding leadership, facilitation, collaborative, analytic and interpersonal skills
• Advanced skill in web authoring tools, such as Dreamweaver/or others; HTML,CSS, XHTML, PHP, Java, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Macromedia Flash, JSP, and XML, Working knowledge of a RED HAT Server and web-based environment
• Extensive experience with web hosting and hosting support for tools/languages listed above and with MySQL and Oracle database management systems.
• Familiarity with metadata, encoding systems, and digitization standards for production of web-based digital collections
Experience in an academic public service environment a plus
