Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Successful candidates will be proficient in the development of front-end applications utilizing Microsoft .NET technologies and familiarity with the development of MS SQL database structures. A demonstrated knowledge of ASP.NET using C#, JavaScript, jQuery, and experience integrating one or more databases such as MSSQL is essential. Candidates must have a proven ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment
Well qualified candidates will have experience with the Visual Studio programming environment, interest in integrating custom .NET code with Sitecore CMS and Microsoft Dynamics CRM. An understanding of ASP classic, PHP and Flash or HTML5 is desirable. Familiarity with Share Point Services and other intranet portal technologies, and authentication procedures such as MS Active Directory and Shibboleth is a plus.
Principal duties:
The successful applicant will be responsible for a variety of academic web and database application projects in a collaborative, educational setting. Our web presence is a critical factor in promoting the Wisconsin School of Business as well as our web related research and teaching. This position will work with faculty and staff in developing and enhancing current Content Management Systems (CMS) application technology. This position will involve developing and enhancing Sitecore CMS platform. The position will work as part of the Web and New Media team consisting of designers, editors, architects, and other programmers at the Wisconsin School of Business and reports to the Director of Public Relations and New Media. This position will also work with faculty and staff on marketing the School of Business and its programs to external constituencies – prospective students, parents, alumni, peer institutions and their faculty.
70% Academic Web Application Development and Implementation – Carry out upgrades, enhancements, and maintenance on existing School of Business Web application systems using the following application development tools: Visual Studio, .NET, SQL, Visual Basic, JavaScript, jQuery, and HTML. – Consult with faculty on appropriate use of web technology, including copyright issues. – Design, test, and implement new complex client-server 3-tier Web application systems using the following application development tools: Visual Studio, .NET, JavaScript, jQuery, MSSQL, Visual Basic, and HTML. – Work with faculty on design and development of interactive web pages to facilitate research. – Develop, consolidate and maintain database and web applications, including functional requirements, functional designs,
technical specifications, implementation plans. – Identify potential problems with application software and take appropriate preventive action. – Assist faculty and staff as well as New Media colleagues in resolving problems with client server and web-based
applications. – Plan and execute the installation, testing and moving to production of new and upgraded application software. Work with
faculty and staff, network operations, and vendors of applications to minimize disruption caused by installations. – Provide advanced technical expertise, consulting and training system to faculty and staff regarding client-server and Webbased
software development tools and practices.
-Consult with faculty on web page development and maintenance of web pages for coursework, research, and home page
development.
10% Development of Reporting Tools. – Develop interactive web page applets to display complex database reports based upon user-defined attributes using the
following development tools: Visual Studio, .NET, MS SQL, Visual Basic, ASP, HTML, JavaScript, and jQuery reporting tools. – Respond quickly and accurately to supervisor and customer requests for production system information, or ad hoc reports
and data extracts. – Provide periodic project status reports to project members and management staff.
10% Document Application Coding and User Processes – Prepare and update documentation for users and programming staff. This includes data flow diagrams, and programming
code, as well as user documentation. – Assist with development and delivery of training for program users. – Share knowledge with other Web and New Media staff and provide assistance in areas of personal expertise. – Develop analysis and planning documents for the development, implementation, and/or consolidation of applications.
10% Professional Development and perform other projects and duties, as assigned – Through classes, conferences and reading, keep abreast of advances in software development technologies. – Perform other projects and duties, as assigned
Additional Information:
The fixed term terminal appointment could be extended for 1 additional year depending on funding or there is a possibility of changing the appointment to renewable status.
