Summary:
The Web Editor develops and maintains content for key system-wide websites, including the soon-to-be redesigned www.universityofcalifornia.edu and its new admissions site for undergraduate applicants. Working quickly and thoroughly, this position will create, edit and manage content (copy, photography, multimedia, infographics, and policy documents) to meet high standards for accuracy, message consistency and usability.
The position will collaborate closely with colleagues in the Marketing and Communications Services team at the system-wide Office of the President as it redefines the University's online presence and overall brand. The high volume of work demands strong attention to detail to ensure accurate translation of policies, solid technical proficiency in content management systems, strong collaborative skills, and an instinct for presenting information in a clear and compelling way..
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree and three or more years experience providing website content development and maintenance in a dynamic, high-volume environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated skills in writing, editing, and effective communication with a variety of constituencies.
• Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation; thorough knowledge of appropriate editorial style and publication guidelines (including AP style); meticulous copyediting and proofreading skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of best web content practices, browser functionality, search engine optimization, and accessibility and ADA compliance.
• Demonstrated experience creating and editing web content through a content management system.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain logical directory structure and files on web server, including knowledge of accepted file/folder naming conventions.
• Ability to organize multiple layers of copy and maintain consistency in voice, brand and site architecture.
• Understanding of user-centered web content and a strong instinct for usability and effective content organization.
• Working knowledge of Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Basic proficiency with HTML a plus.
• Familiarity with optimizing and sizing images for web use and necessary techniques for use of video on the web.
• Experience with both Mac and PC platforms.
• Strong organization and time-management skills: demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize and manage a high-volume of assignments, with frequent interruptions to complete tasks in a timely manner and within timelines.
• Ability to work calmly and effectively in situations under pressure.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated conceptual and logical abilities; ability to think creatively as well as strategically.
• Strong interpersonal communication, diplomacy, and relationship-building skills to establish and maintain effective working partnerships with clients and other staff members; ability to work both independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
