Summary:
The Manager of Content Strategy develops and executes the content strategy for the University's soon-to-be-redesigned systemwide website (www.universityofcalifornia.edu) and its core social media and other digital communication channels. This individual will not only define which content is published, but why it should be published and how it will be tended over time. Along with setting content standards, this position will create and will guide other experienced content producers to create content with a distinct voice and clear purpose that builds users' understanding of and support for the UC system. This position sits within a Marketing and Communication Services team at the systemwide Office of the President that is in the midst of redefining the University's online presence and overall branding. This position works closely with senior Communications and External Relations staff at the systemwide office and across University locations statewide.


Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in a closely related field that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fulfill job requirements.
• 5+ years' experience in a management or leadership role on a content team.
• 5+ years' experience in content strategy and/or writing content for the web or other media.
• Strong portfolio with examples of effective interactive web content.
• Demonstrated experience making tactical and strategic content recommendations, planning and implementing content initiatives, and leading complex, long-term content projects.
• Ability to organize multiple layers of copy and maintain consistency in voice, brand and site architecture.
• Basic understanding of user experience to ensure content strategy is rooted in meeting user needs.
• Experience establishing and evaluating metrics to determine content effectiveness.
• Experience in establishing content creation process and workflow.
• Proven ability to problem-solve and adapt deliverables to meet client needs.
• Experience training and leading mid-level and senior editors and writers.
• Experience working closely and collaboratively with design and user experience research teams.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues within the system and with external sources. Strong interpersonal skills and tact are essential.
• Demonstrated skill in news, feature and persuasive writing, interviewing/research, headline and caption writing, editing and proofreading.
• Demonstrated ability to identify story leads and develop them.
• Experience creating and managing multimedia content as well as professional content for social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and others).
• Proven ability to meet deadlines while juggling multiple projects.
• Competence in the use of applicable software for editing, writing for the web and basic web publishing and image editing.
• Knowledge of Associated Press style.
