User Support Specialist

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This newly created position will support administrative functions of the University by providing faculty and staff with software and hardware support and training.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for staff training on software, hardware, and acceptable use policies for computing and electronic resources; provide training for new staff and periodic training for existing staff; create tutorials and training materials.
2. Develop knowledge of software and database systems used by faculty and staff, including Jenzabar (student information system), FileMaker Pro, InfoMaker, BlackBaud Raiser's Edge, EMS (event scheduling software), and Microsoft Office suite; help departments make use of current resources.
3. Provide software support for on-campus staff and faculty. Manage training activities, prepare user-level documentation, supervise any student assistants, and other user support tasks.
4. Track and maintain databases of existing software, hardware and licenses. Develop recycling program to maximize usefulness of older technology by redistributing among staff.
5. Beta test new versions of software to learn new capabilities before software is rolled out to campus users.
6. Initiate and participate in User Groups for various system users.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
1) Experience working with computer software and hardware.
2) Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software and keep current with new technologies.
3) Excellent customer service and communication (verbal and writing) skills.
4) Attention to detail.
5) Ability to work independently within the framework of a team environment.
POSITION HOURS:
Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
