UIT works in partnership with schools, business units, and other academic support organizations to provide campus-wide services in the areas of academic and research technology, enterprise application systems and services, networking and telecommunications, information security, data center operations, and user support, training and outreach.
Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Enterprise Systems, the Manager of Enterprise Services is responsible for leading the administration and operational management of Enterprise Systems, VMware virtualization infrastructure, windows servers, directory services (active directory and LDAP), certificate management, enterprise email services and storage infrastructure which support the University’s administrative applications. The Manager leads a team of 8-10 systems administrators and storage systems engineers to ensure systems reliability, availability, security, and 24/7 delivery of services and operational support related to these systems. Key responsibilities include:
* managing infrastructure related projects; * aligning activities to UIT policies and standards; * following industry best practices; * setting project goals using project management best practices and principles; * closely monitoring project execution; * driving issue resolution; * and identifying and executing operational enhancements to improve efficiency, productivity and cost savings.The Manager of Enterprise Services interfaces with technical lead counterparts as well as senior management to make technical recommendations and collaborate on strategic objectives.
Basic Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field experience * At least seven (7) years of experience in infrastructure systems, with the most recent two to three (2-3) years demonstrating a progression in leadership and management experience * Strong knowledge of windows domains and systems administration, UNIX Systems Administration (preferably with Solaris and Linux), email infrastructure, NAS/SAN storage architectures and network appliance technologies, and experience with server virtualization * Strong project management experience with proven track record of running IT projects from concept through implementation and support * Must have proven expert level communication skills to technical and functional audiences * Must be results oriented * Must possess proven leadership and managerial skills and the ability to work efficiently and effectively in both team and independent settingsPreferred Qualifications:An advanced degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred. Experience managing IT Enterprise services in a research intensive, higher education environment is a plus. Knowledge of high-availability/disaster recovery concepts is valuable. Experience designing, documenting, and implementing business processes and workflow using ITIL v3 standards is preferred. Experience with VMware 3.x and 4.x, and Cisco networking infrastructure is ideal. Experience with Exchange (2010 preferable) and NetApp Storage is a plus.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:The majority of the work for this position is performed during normal business hours Monday through Friday. However, there may be an occasional need to work during evening hours or on weekends.
