Director of Information Security
at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan
This position is responsible for research, evaluation, design, knowledge and recommendation of security policies and best practices. The position will provide oversight to other teams within the ITS department during the architecture and deployment phases of projects. It will also be responsible for coordinating the development of security programs that address current challenges and provide the University data security for the future. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision and cultural values.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead Information Security policy development and project management, maintain ownership.
2. Collaboratively design and author a policy for scheduled assessment of internal application security with application owners.
3. Collaboratively design, author and maintain the following: a policy for scheduled assessment of existing data protection mechanisms, an infrastructure access control policy and a policy for scheduled access reviews of users and administrators.
4. Build a team, over time, to manage and oversee the policies authored by this position.
5. Identify asset threats, vulnerabilities and security management systems.
6. Identify best practices for data/information security and draft policies to steer us toward compliance.
7. Develop risk profile and risk reduction plans for assessed environments and systems within the university.
8. Work with IT staff and other departments to determine appropriate security policies, processes, and procedures for securable resources.
9. Consult with management to ensure selection and use of realistic enforcement mechanisms.
10. Conduct forensic examinations of computers and other digital devices for evidence in security incidents.
11. Collaborate with leadership security policies.
12. Actively participate in appropriate University committees and task forces.
13. Be available to IT staff and leadership whenever appropriate.
14. Document results of research or other scholarly activities in published form.
15. Assist/advise in the development of training program materials.
16. Participates in appropriate professional organizations.
17. Provides GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
18. Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.
19. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Network Security or related field required, Master's degree preferred.
4+ years of related experience required.
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent preferred.
Familiarity with higher education information security challenges and environment.
Familiarity with federal regulations governing student data security.
Demonstrated ability to think logically, analyze data, and process detailed information.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems (PC and mainframe).
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturday as needed, additional hours during peak times or as required.
