full time Marketing Communications Associate

at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business in Durham, NC

The Marketing Communications Associate is a member of a team that engages in strategic marketing for Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. This position is responsible for producing a wide range of writing, multimedia and editorial projects, working closely with a team of designers, subject matter experts, production managers and web developers within the school, as well as other contacts throughout the school and university. The position reports to the Director of Communications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Write and edit copy for Web sites, marketing and fundraising brochures, student recruitment materials, direct mail, landing pages, newsletters, the school magazine, and advertising campaigns
• Help drive the school’s social media strategy; create and manage content for assigned social media outlets.
• Assist Multimedia Production Manager with producing videos
• Demonstrate creativity and attention to accuracy and detail
• Translate business information from varied sources into targeted communications for both professional and lay audiences demonstrating a high level of issue comprehension
• Create and administer content management plans
• Work closely with the Director of Communications to ensure that expectations are met on a per project basis in terms of content, quality, and turnaround time.
• Work well under tight deadlines and be able to maintain cordial, productive, professional relationships with coworkers and clients
• Support institutional and project communication goals in partnership with marketing and graphic design team members
• Identify and assist with arrangements for freelance writing support as necessary

Skills & Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, new media communications, marketing or related field
• The ability to write engaging marketing copy at the highest level, for a range of audiences and channels (e.g., web, print, social media)
• Strong organizational and planning skills, with ability to effectively and efficiently manage several projects simultaneously and to work under firm deadlines
• Great attention to detail and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with internal and external clients and stakeholders
• Good sense for how content, design, form/function, navigation and/or usability work together for effective communication across various channels
• Demonstrated knowledge of branding, advertising, and marketing principles
• Interest in photography, videography and/or an eye for design preferred

Experience:
• Minimum of five years’ directly related communications experience gathering information, writing/producing materials and presenting information to target audiences
• Marketing and project management experience required
• Content Management System (CMS) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experience preferred
