Higher Ed Experts' (Long) Story
It all started by a beautiful and sunny morning of January 2007...
Karine Joly, founder and editor of www.collegewebeditor.com, was looking for a way to spend more time to find, report and share even more great tips and best practices about the Web, marketing and PR in higher education.
Since the launch of her blog in February 2005 and the start of her Internet Technologies column for University Business in February 2006, Karine had interviewed many great professionals developing original initiatives and exchanged with real higher ed experts exploring new frontiers.
An insider herself working for a liberal arts college since 2002, she was also aware of the budget issues many Web and marketing offices face when it comes to professional development.
"I thought there ought to be a way between the great all-free model of HigherEdBlogCon, a successful conference organized in April 2006 by a few dedicated volunteers and supported by a couple of organizations, and the expensive webinars offered by other companies," recalls Ms. Joly.
The last piece of this win-win puzzle was to find a way to compensate great speakers and experts for their time and work. "While most presenters in this field are really not in it for the money, I believe great work should be compensated. And, what better way to achieve this goal than a straight commission on all paid fees for the webinars you present?"
That's really all there is to Higher Ed Experts: a simple idea powered by technology...
